There are 3 common deployment models for Cloud Computing.

Public Cloud

Public is traditional cloud computing where resources are hosted by a third party typically via internet or VPN and the user is billed on a usage basis

Hybrid Cloud

Hybrid cloud is the joining of both public and private cloud, typically a combination of virtualized cloud server instances used together with physical hardware. For example business critical data could be held on premise whilst non-critical data is held in the cloud

Private Cloud

Private cloud is generally used by Enterprise whereby the private network is used. It consists of applications and virtual machines in the Company’s own hosts.  This provides the benefits of cloud service whilst sharing the hardware costs.

Benefits of Cloud include:

Cloud based services give flexibility. Employees can access the data from anywhere outside the office. This can create more flexible and mobile work environment. It also provides flexibility in implementing changes with less risk and cost.

Increased efficiency and cost reduction

as huge amount of resources are not needed for everyone, clouds provider can lease them to other clients, and they divide the cost between clients. Because of less time and cost, organisations can focus their energy elsewhere and be efficient.

It is more reliable because of the economies of scale. Vendor is more able to give 24/7 support and extensively trained staff to support the infrastructure.
